Kahuna Watch with Miyota 2115 Movement with Date at 3 o/c

This watch came in with all the hands freely rotating around the dial face.

The stem came with a slight pull (The winding gear broke).

The back was of the case and the battery was missing (377).

Once the movement had been removed from the case, it became clear why the hands acted as they did.

One of the dial feet was broken and the whole movement was swinging freely.

Set about soldering the dial feet on.

This is my setup for soldering!

New movement arrived and fitted.

This watch is from the bag of non-working BFG movements I won on eBay, to use as practice. 

Markings on the dial: Ingersoll, Antimagnetic, Unbreakable Mainspring, Swiss Made.

The regulator pin is missing, a new part ordered (part no 307) and the Barrel is rubbing on the top plate!

Movement dissasembled.

Cleaned parts and I have fitted new regulator, reassemble movement.

Now working fine after service!

Added a gold plated strap and watch completed!

While I had the watch I gave it a good clean, which it needed!

Back to working on a mechanical watch movement today, after doing a lot of quartz watches.

Movement disassembled and all parts cleaned and ready for reassembling.

 Practice makes perfect.

A couple of interesting watches:

I had to use my crystal compression tool to remove the crystal on the colourful Westar quartz watch. as the dial and movement release from the case from the front, needed to put the second hand back on.

I also needed the use of my "Third Hand" and anvil to remove the "stuck" front bezel on the Skagen Denmark watch.

Placing the pendant tube in the hole in the anvil, and after a couple to taps with watchmakers hammer on my case back opener it popped off, and no scratches on the case!

As this watch also needs front bezel removed to take out dial and movement.

This watch already had a broken crystal, so will need to order a replacement, If I can get the movement working correctly. 

All this lot of watches stripped down and ready for cleaning.

Some the “45 Car Boot” watches

Today I started to assemble some the “45 Car Boot” watches that I won on eBay that I disassembled and clean yesterday.

Stem extension on a broken stem in this movement.

Good practice, as they say, “practice makes perfect”. So I had to put a stem extension on a broken stem in one movement. Straight hands, and replace on the other movement.

Worked on the smallest movement I have worked on so far, the watch is a MARC “Ring” watch.

This movement had been well abused, I was lucky the movement was not a completely sealed one, so could disable part of the movement. I needed to do this to straighten and untwist the long battery clip, with careful manipulation it was a success.

All the watches have new batteries, and they are back to life and running well.

Will leave them running while I check out the next draw of the lot, then I will polish the cases and remove the marks from the crystals.

Vintage Seiko 5 Automatic Mechanical Movement service

Today I started the service on the smallest Automatic Mechanical Movement I have so far worked on.

This watch is a Vintage Seiko 5 Automatic fitted with the Seiko 4206/B Mechanical Automatic Movement.

I found the Parts and Technical sheets for the movement online, so I have something to work to when servicing the movement.

I will have to use my strongest Loupe when working on this caliber of watch.

Fingers crossed I don’t lose or break a part!

Replacing the movement on a Vostok Europe, Expedition North Pole -1 Watch

I had an interesting job in the workshop today, which was to replace the movement on a Vostok Europe - Expedition North Pole -1 watch

The Expedition North Pole watch was named after the first Soviet, manned, drifting polar station. The North Pole-1 polar station was opened on June 6, 1937, some 20 km from the North Pole and operated for 9 months during which the ice floe travelled 2,850km.

The expedition ended 75 years ago.

The movement is a Japanese-automatic Movement NH35A – 5955195 Made by SII (Seiko)

When replacing the dial, I could not line up the date numbers thought the dial window!

Can you spot the difference in the old movement and the new replacement movement?

The numbers on the date rings are printed 90% to each other. So I had to exchange the date rings.

Only a second hand on the good dial.

After the deconstruction, the only problem I found, is that the Centre Wheel shaft was broken at the Pinion end. So I will need to need a replacement or make a new one!

The battery in the watch had blown, so I had to completely clean the contacts.

Cleaned watch in the ultrasonic cleaner.
